Prayer Times Torrance, CA Today

How Prayer Times in Torrance Change Through the Year

The sun runs Torrance's prayer clock, and it never keeps the same hours for long. Fajr reaches its earliest point of 2026 on 11 Jun 2026, at 4:18 AM, and its latest on 08 Mar 2026, at 6:05 AM: a swing of 1 hour 47 minutes between the two. A timetable printed in winter is out of date by summer. The swing is gentler than in the northern states because Torrance sits at 33.8 degrees north, where daylight stays steadier through the year.

The evening moves even more than the morning. The earliest Maghrib of the year in Torrance is 4:44 PM on 01 Dec 2026; the latest is 8:08 PM on 22 Jun 2026, a shift of 3 hours 24 minutes. On the longest day, 21 Jun 2026, sunset holds until 8:07 PM; on the shortest day, 21 Dec 2026, it comes at 4:49 PM.

For anyone fasting outside Ramadan, such as the Monday and Thursday fasts or the white days each month, the longest fast of 2026 in Torrance runs 15 hours 49 minutes on 18 Jun 2026, from Fajr at 4:18 AM to Maghrib at 8:07 PM. The shortest fast is 11 hours 8 minutes on 18 Dec 2026. Solar noon moves too: Dhuhr ranges from 11:37 AM in one part of the year to 1:04 PM in another, following the equation of time. Measured against the other 218 cities and neighbourhoods we track, that longest fast ranks 150 of 218.

How Each Prayer Time Is Calculated in Torrance

Each prayer begins at a defined position of the sun, not at a fixed clock time. PrayerTimesUSA calculates the Torrance timetable with the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) method, the standard used by most mosques in the United States: Fajr and Isha at a sun angle of 15 degrees, Asr by the standard shadow rule, with the Hanafi Asr shown through the method selector. Today's Hijri date in Torrance is 23 Jumādá al-ūlá 1448 (03 Nov 2026).

Fajr (5:04 AM today)

Fajr begins at true dawn, when the first white light spreads across the eastern horizon. In Torrance today that is 5:04 AM, and the window closes at sunrise (6:15 AM). A prayer offered after sunrise counts as missed (qada), so the Fajr alarm matters most in summer: dawn in Torrance ranges across the year from 4:18 AM at its earliest to 6:05 AM at its latest.

Dhuhr (11:37 AM today)

Dhuhr enters just after solar noon, the moment the sun stops climbing and starts down. Solar noon in Torrance is not 12:00 on the clock, because the city sits inside the America/Los_Angeles zone rather than on its meridian line: today it gives a Dhuhr of 11:37 AM. On Fridays, Jummah takes Dhuhr's place.

Asr (2:37 PM today)

Asr begins when the afternoon shadow of an object equals its height, on top of the shadow it cast at noon. In Torrance today that is 2:37 PM by the standard (Shafi'i, Maliki, Hanbali) rule. The Hanafi school waits for double the height, around 45 to 65 minutes later; the method selector above shows that time. Pray it before the sun weakens and yellows near the horizon.

Maghrib (4:59 PM today)

At 4:59 PM today in Torrance, the sun sets and Maghrib begins. Its window is the shortest of the day, so it is prayed promptly. On fasting days this same moment is iftar: break the fast first, following the Sunnah, with dates or water.

Isha (6:09 PM today) and the Last Third of the Night

When the red twilight has gone from the west, Isha begins: 6:09 PM tonight in Torrance. The night that follows is measured from Maghrib to Fajr; its last third, after Islamic midnight, is the Tahajjud time. Use the Tahajjud calculator to find tonight's last third in Torrance.

Finding the Qibla Direction in Torrance (23.81° North-East)

Prayer is valid only when faced toward the Kaaba in Mecca, and from Torrance the shortest path over the Earth's surface, the great-circle route, points 23.81° north-east from true north. The bearing is calculated from Torrance's coordinates (33.8° N, 118.3° W) to the Kaaba (21.4225° N, 39.8262° E). At about 8357 miles (13450 km), it is one of the longer qibla distances in the United States. From Torrance, the great-circle line heads across Canada and the North Atlantic before descending toward Arabia.

To face the qibla at home or at work in Torrance, open the Qibla Compass on your phone, calibrate it with a slow figure-eight motion, and keep it away from metal furniture and electrical equipment that pull the needle. In a mosque, the mihrab already marks the direction.

Daylight Saving Time in California: The Two Jump Days

Torrance moves its clocks twice a year, and the prayer timetable jumps with them. Daylight saving begins on 08 Mar 2026: Fajr leaps from 5:06 AM to 6:05 AM in one night, a shift of just under an hour, and Maghrib follows, from 5:55 PM to 6:56 PM. On 01 Nov 2026 the clocks fall back, and Fajr returns from 6:02 AM to 5:03 AM. Mosques in Torrance reset their iqamah boards on the same weekends. This page always follows the America/Los_Angeles time in force, so the times you see are already adjusted.
