Prayer Times Kansas City: Islamic Prayer Schedule & Community Guide
Prayer times Kansas City for today, 03 Nov 2026 (23 Jumādá al-ūlá 1448 Hijri): Fajr begins at 5:33 AM in Kansas City, Missouri, and Maghrib, the fast-breaking prayer, is at 5:15 PM. 2 Islamic centers serve the local Muslim community. Below is the complete timetable for all five daily prayers plus the 31-day monthly schedule.
How Prayer Times in Kansas City Change Through the Year
The sun runs Kansas City's prayer clock, and it never keeps the same hours for long. Fajr reaches its earliest point of 2026 on 11 Jun 2026, at 4:17 AM, and its latest on 31 Oct 2026, at 6:30 AM: a swing of 2 hours 13 minutes between the two. A timetable printed in winter is out of date by summer. The swing is wide because Kansas City sits at 39.1 degrees north, far enough from the equator for the seasons to move the sun's path a long way.
The evening moves even more than the morning. The earliest Maghrib of the year in Kansas City is 4:55 PM on 06 Dec 2026; the latest is 8:48 PM on 20 Jun 2026, a shift of 3 hours 53 minutes. On the longest day, 21 Jun 2026, sunset holds until 8:48 PM; on the shortest day, 21 Dec 2026, it comes at 4:59 PM.
Anyone who keeps the voluntary fasts, on Mondays and Thursdays or the white days of each month, feels the range most. The longest fast of 2026 in Kansas City runs 16 hours 31 minutes, on 20 Jun 2026, from a Fajr of 4:17 AM to a Maghrib of 8:48 PM; the shortest is just 10 hours 45 minutes on 17 Dec 2026. Measured against the other 218 cities and neighbourhoods we track, that longest fast ranks 82 of 218. Solar noon drifts as well: Dhuhr moves between 12:02 PM and 1:29 PM across the year, following the equation of time.
Muslim Community in Kansas City, Missouri
Kansas City's Muslim story starts with African American Muslims, whose early temple drew donors including Muhammad Ali, and changed shape after the 1965 immigration act brought South Asian and Middle Eastern professionals to the city. By the early 1980s that newer community had outgrown a temporary space on Rainbow Boulevard and built the Islamic Society of Greater Kansas City mosque and community center in south Kansas City.
The society's mosque opened in March 1981, and the site grew to include the city's first full-time Islamic school and a Muslim cemetery that is now one of the largest of its kind in the country. Later arrivals added new layers: Bosnian and Somali families settled in northeast Kansas City in the 1990s, followed in the 2000s by immigrants from Afghanistan, Iraq and Sudan.
Northeast Kansas City has its own anchor in the Al-Huda Center, which opened in a small rented apartment in 1994, lost its mosque to fire in 2010, and rebuilt in a former church on Van Brunt Boulevard in 2011. The society also runs a weekend school, interfaith dialogue, food drives and refugee assistance across the metro.
How Each Prayer Time Is Calculated in Kansas City
Prayer times follow the sun, so they shift a little every day. For Kansas City, this page uses the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) method, the one most US mosques follow: a 15-degree sun angle for Fajr and Isha, the standard shadow rule for Asr, and the Hanafi Asr available in the method selector. Today, 03 Nov 2026, is 23 Jumādá al-ūlá 1448 on the Hijri calendar.
Fajr (5:33 AM today)
True dawn, the first white light spreading sideways along the eastern horizon, opens the Fajr window. In Kansas City today that moment is 5:33 AM. The window shuts at sunrise (6:48 AM); a Fajr prayed after that is qada, a missed prayer made up later. Because dawn in Kansas City swings between 4:17 AM and 6:30 AM over the year, a fixed alarm time never works for long.
Dhuhr (12:02 PM today)
Dhuhr starts once the sun has crossed its peak and begun to decline. Solar noon is not the same as 12:00 on the clock, because Kansas City sits within the America/Chicago zone, away from its central meridian: today Dhuhr in Kansas City is 12:02 PM. On Fridays the Jummah congregation takes the place of Dhuhr.
Asr (2:53 PM today)
Asr begins when an object's shadow equals its height beyond the noon shadow. That standard rule (Shafi'i, Maliki and Hanbali) gives 2:53 PM in Kansas City today. The Hanafi rule waits until the shadow is twice the height, which falls roughly 45 to 65 minutes later; use the calculation method selector at the top of this page to view Hanafi Asr. Finish Asr before the sun turns yellow and weak near the horizon.
Maghrib (5:15 PM today)
Maghrib enters the moment the whole disc of the sun disappears below the horizon: 5:15 PM today in Kansas City. It is also the iftar moment on fasting days, and the Sunnah is to break the fast promptly with dates or water, then pray.
Isha (6:30 PM today) and the Last Third of the Night
Isha begins when the red twilight leaves the western sky, at 6:30 PM tonight in Kansas City. Islamic midnight is the midpoint between Maghrib and the next Fajr, and the last third of the night after it is the time of Tahajjud, the voluntary night prayer. Use our Tahajjud calculator to find tonight's last third for Kansas City.
Friday Jummah and Mosques in Kansas City, Missouri
Jummah, the Friday congregational prayer, replaces Dhuhr every week and is the largest regular gathering of Muslims in Kansas City. 2 mosques and Islamic centers in Kansas City are listed below with their addresses, including Islamic Society of Greater Kansas City. Each mosque sets its own khutbah time inside the Dhuhr window (Dhuhr today is 12:02 PM), so check the mosque's own notice board or website before you go, and arrive early: Friday parking fills fast.
Most mosques in Kansas City also hold the five daily prayers in congregation, Quran classes for children, and taraweeh through Ramadan. If your mosque in Kansas City is missing from the list, contact us and we will add it with its address and Jummah time.
Finding the Qibla Direction in Kansas City (43.77° North-East)
Muslims pray facing the Kaaba in Mecca, and from Kansas City that means facing 43.77° north-east from true north, measured the short way around the globe. The bearing comes from Kansas City's position (39.1° N, 94.6° W) set against the Kaaba's (21.4225° N, 39.8262° E). Along that bearing, the Kaaba is about 7322 miles (11783 km) from Kansas City in a straight line over the Earth's curved surface. It surprises many people that the direction is north-east rather than south-east: from North America, the shortest line to Mecca crosses the North Atlantic, not the Pacific.
At home or at work in Kansas City, the Qibla Compass on your phone reads the bearing directly. Calibrate it with a slow figure-eight motion, and keep it clear of metal furniture and electronics that drag the needle. Inside a mosque, the mihrab already marks the direction.
Daylight Saving Time in Missouri: The Two Jump Days
Kansas City moves its clocks twice a year, and the prayer timetable jumps with them. Daylight saving begins on 08 Mar 2026: Fajr leaps from 5:29 AM to 6:27 AM in one night, a shift of just under an hour, and Maghrib follows, from 6:17 PM to 7:18 PM. On 01 Nov 2026 the clocks fall back, and Fajr returns from 6:30 AM to 5:31 AM. Mosques in Kansas City reset their iqamah boards on the same weekends. This page always follows the America/Chicago time in force, so the times you see are already adjusted.
