All five daily prayers and the full 31-day monthly schedule are below.
How Prayer Times in Lexington Change Through the Year
No two days in Lexington start at quite the same time. Across 2026, the earliest dawn prayer falls on 13 Jun 2026 at 4:42 AM, while the latest falls on 31 Oct 2026 at 6:49 AM. Between those dates Fajr travels 2 hours 7 minutes, which is why this page recalculates the timetable daily instead of printing a fixed one. The swing is gentler than in the northern states because Lexington sits at 38.0 degrees north, where daylight stays steadier through the year.
The evening moves even more than the morning. The earliest Maghrib of the year in Lexington is 5:18 PM on 02 Dec 2026; the latest is 9:05 PM on 23 Jun 2026, a shift of 3 hours 47 minutes. On the longest day, 21 Jun 2026, sunset holds until 9:04 PM; on the shortest day, 21 Dec 2026, it comes at 5:22 PM.
Anyone who keeps the voluntary fasts, on Mondays and Thursdays or the white days of each month, feels the range most. The longest fast of 2026 in Lexington runs 16 hours 22 minutes, on 23 Jun 2026, from a Fajr of 4:43 AM to a Maghrib of 9:05 PM; the shortest is just 10 hours 50 minutes on 19 Dec 2026. Measured against the other 218 cities and neighbourhoods we track, that longest fast ranks 91 of 218. Solar noon drifts as well: Dhuhr moves between 12:22 PM and 1:49 PM across the year, following the equation of time.
At the height of summer the night almost disappears. Isha does not arrive until 10:37 PM on 20 Jun 2026, and the next Fajr follows only about 6 hours 5 minutes later. Worshippers in Lexington guard their sleep through June and July, and some mosques adjust or combine the summer night prayers, so check your mosque's board in midsummer.
Muslim Community in Lexington, Kentucky
Lexington's Muslim community organized in 1975, when a small group of Muslims found there was no masjid in the city for Friday prayers or any collective expression of Islam. After renting and being displaced from several facilities, the group gained a permanent location in 1978 at 572 Georgetown Street, which became the first masjid in Lexington and was later named Masjid Bilal Ibn Rabah. After renting there for more than 20 years, the community purchased the property in 2001.
Growth soon outstripped that space. In March 2004 the community bought property at 1545 Russell Cave Road and moved there in 2005 after renovating the two story house on the site. Fundraising then paid for a new masjid built in front of the old one, completed in the fall of 2015, with room for worship, parking and outdoor events such as the annual Eid carnival.
The original Georgetown Street property now serves the whole city as the SHARE Center, which opened in 2010 with an employment services center, food and clothing banks, a computer lab and a health clinic staffed mostly by Muslim doctors and medical students. Lexington's Muslims also gather at the Islamic Center of Lexington, established in 1982 with its own Lexington Islamic School, and come from Arab, Pakistani, Somali, Bosnian and Kosovar backgrounds, with Arabs from Egypt, Syria, Lebanon and Palestine the largest group.
How Each Prayer Time Is Calculated in Lexington
The Lexington timetable on this page is calculated with the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) method, the convention followed by most mosques in the United States. It sets Fajr and Isha by a 15-degree depression angle of the sun, and Asr by the standard shadow rule; the Hanafi Asr is one tap away in the method selector. Each prayer is tied to a position of the sun, never to a fixed clock time. Today, 03 Nov 2026, is 23 Jumādá al-ūlá 1448.
Fajr (5:52 AM today)
Fajr is prayed at dawn, when light first appears across the horizon before sunrise. Today in Lexington it begins at 5:52 AM and must be finished by sunrise (7:06 AM). Across the year, Lexington's dawn moves from 4:42 AM at the earliest to 6:49 AM at the latest, so regular worshippers reset their Fajr alarm every few weeks.
Dhuhr (12:22 PM today)
The noon prayer begins once the sun has passed its peak. In Lexington that works out to 12:22 PM today. Clock time and sun time differ here because Lexington keeps America/New_York time from a position away from the zone's central meridian. On Fridays the congregational Jummah replaces Dhuhr.
Asr (3:15 PM today)
Asr begins when the afternoon shadow of an object equals its height, on top of the shadow it cast at noon. In Lexington today that is 3:15 PM by the standard (Shafi'i, Maliki, Hanbali) rule. The Hanafi school waits for double the height, around 45 to 65 minutes later; the method selector above shows that time. Pray it before the sun weakens and yellows near the horizon.
Maghrib (5:37 PM today)
At 5:37 PM today in Lexington, the sun sets and Maghrib begins. Its window is the shortest of the day, so it is prayed promptly. On fasting days this same moment is iftar: break the fast first, following the Sunnah, with dates or water.
Isha (6:51 PM today) and the Last Third of the Night
When the red twilight has gone from the west, Isha begins: 6:51 PM tonight in Lexington. The night that follows is measured from Maghrib to Fajr; its last third, after Islamic midnight, is the Tahajjud time. Use the Tahajjud calculator to find tonight's last third in Lexington.
Friday Jummah and Mosques in Lexington, Kentucky
Jummah, the Friday congregational prayer, replaces Dhuhr every week and is the largest regular gathering of Muslims in Lexington. The mosque listed below serves Lexington with its address, including Islamic Center of Lexington. Each mosque sets its own khutbah time inside the Dhuhr window (Dhuhr today is 12:22 PM), so check the mosque's own notice board or website before you go, and arrive early: Friday parking fills fast.
Beyond Friday, expect daily congregational prayers, children's Quran classes and taraweeh in Ramadan at these centers. Mosque not listed? Send us the details and we will add it with its address and Jummah time.
Finding the Qibla Direction in Lexington (51.51° North-East)
Prayer is valid only when faced toward the Kaaba in Mecca, and from Lexington the shortest path over the Earth's surface, the great-circle route, points 51.51° north-east from true north. The bearing is calculated from Lexington's coordinates (38.0° N, 84.5° W) to the Kaaba (21.4225° N, 39.8262° E). Along that bearing, the Kaaba is about 6969 miles (11215 km) from Lexington in a straight line over the Earth's curved surface. It surprises many people that the direction is north-east rather than south-east: from North America, the shortest line to Mecca crosses the North Atlantic, not the Pacific.
To face the qibla at home or at work in Lexington, open the Qibla Compass on your phone, calibrate it with a slow figure-eight motion, and keep it away from metal furniture and electrical equipment that pull the needle. In a mosque, the mihrab already marks the direction.
Daylight Saving Time in Kentucky: The Two Jump Days
Lexington moves its clocks twice a year, and the prayer timetable jumps with them. Daylight saving begins on 08 Mar 2026: Fajr leaps from 5:49 AM to 6:48 AM in one night, a shift of just under an hour, and Maghrib follows, from 6:38 PM to 7:39 PM. On 01 Nov 2026 the clocks fall back, and Fajr returns from 6:49 AM to 5:50 AM. Mosques in Lexington reset their iqamah boards on the same weekends. This page always follows the America/New_York time in force, so the times you see are already adjusted.
